Dr. Philipe Dias

R&D Associate

Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Philipe Dias is a R&D Associate in Computer Vision and Machine Learning with the GeoAI group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His research combines AI, probability theory, and high performance computing for automated image analysis targeting problems of practical relevance. Currently, his main focus is on the large-scale analysis of remote sensing imagery pairing modern AI strategies and HPC resources, including the development of models for infrastructure mapping, quantification and monitoring, land use characterization, and recent efforts toward multimodal foundation models for geospatial analysis. These works ultimately inform urban dynamics studies and disaster management efforts.

Before joining ORNL, Philipe’s work has found application in wastewater treatment, agricultural automation, and healthcare-related scenarios. He received his PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Marquette University. As result of a Double Masters Degree, he received his M.Sc. in Information Technology from the Hochschule Mannheim (Germany) and his M.Sc. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Technology (UTFPR, Brazil).
